Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a customer sees. Most businesses set it up once and never touch it. Here are the five costliest errors.
We audit dozens of Google Business Profiles every month. The same five mistakes show up over and over - and each one is quietly costing the business real customers.
1. Categories chosen lazily
Your primary category is the single biggest ranking factor in the local pack. 'Dentist' and 'Cosmetic Dentist' compete for very different queries. Pick the one that matches the work you actually want more of.
2. Photos that haven't been updated since 2021
Profiles with fresh, real photos get up to 35% more clicks through to the website. Stock images and outdated shots actively hurt you.
3. No Q&A management
Anyone can post a question on your profile, and anyone can answer it. If you're not the one answering, your competitors or random members of the public are.
4. Services left blank
The services section is searchable. Empty fields mean missed visibility for high-intent queries you'd otherwise rank for.
5. Reviews ignored
Responding to reviews - good and bad - signals an active business. It also gives Google more context to match you to relevant queries.
None of this is technical. It's housekeeping. But it's housekeeping that pays back every single day.
